This didn't actually fix bug 580740, because the module is not enabled.

This kernel I build myself has the module, and it works with the USB
dongle in question:

    $ egrep CONFIG_RTL8192 /boot/config-2.6.34 
    CONFIG_RTL8192SU=m
    CONFIG_RTL8192U=m
    CONFIG_RTL8192E=m

whereas this packaged kernel does not have the it:

    $ egrep CONFIG_RTL8192 /boot/config-2.6.34-1-amd64 
    # CONFIG_RTL8192U is not set
    CONFIG_RTL8192E=m
