Yes, that was it.  I feel dumb now.  The package scripts created all the
other lilo.conf configuration entries but I never noticed that it didn't
create the initrd line for the newly installed kernel.  That fixed it,
thanks, 3.2.0-4-686-pae is booting just fine now.
