GNUsTicker: compiled, installed; won't appear on panel

I compiled & installed GNUsTicker, a Gnome RSS ticker applet, because 
without it I'm not really comfortable switching from KDE.

When I go to the "Add to Panel" dialog, the GNUsTicker icon is present but 
when I press "Add" nothing appears on the panel. Anyone get it to work 
successfully?
