This didn't work but thanks. I found some info at this link:

It tells you how to use showkey command to find out your keycodes. Then it

Basically you create a personal keymap just for the keys you are trying to 
enable and either use a keysym (the symbol for they key) or a command in quotes 
using the "string" command with a new-line \n to get the command executed. I 
did this using amixer commands, just for pcm control and it works. This was 
just a quick fix-up which I'll work on more later and this is a quick summary 
so read the information at the listed links if you are interested
