Update-grub is a script, that you might not have, especially if you compiled from source. The actual work is done by the command grub-mkconfig e.g. $ grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg There might be some 2's there after any of the grubs (grub2-mkconfig, /boot/grub2). Check which of the commands and directories do you have in your computer. Daniel Landau
