THE HISTORY OF EASTER
Your Retirement By: Brandee Musiala
Easter is an important Christian holiday that celebrates the resurrection of
Jesus Christ. Crucified under the order of Pontius Pilate for accusations of
"blasphemy", he arose three days later on Easter Sunday.
The word 'Easter' is derived from Eostre, the goddess of spring and fertility.
Eostre eventually gave way to the English word Easter either through an error
in translation, or on purpose in order to make the holiday more widely accepted.
Accepted it is. Easter is now more than just a single day observance. It begins
with Ash Wednesday, a 40-day period of reflection before Easter Sunday and
continues with Eastertide, a celebration of his ascension into heaven, for
another 50 days.
While North America tends to acknowledge this holiday with family dinners,
Easter eggs, bunnies and candy, other parts of the world celebrate it a bit
differently.

EDITOR'S LETTER: POLITICAL DEBATE – ZOOMER ISSUES (HOSTED BY CARP)
Last week, representatives from different political parties came together to
present their views on issues greatly affecting the zoomer demographic.
CARP, an organization committed to "promoting social change" and "protect[ing]
the interests, rights and quality of life for Canadians as [they] age,"
moderated the event. Read more about CARP here.
More than any other demographic, 70% of Canadians over the age of 65 vote
regularly. Furthermore, I believe those in their 40′s and 50′s are looking into
the future by thinking about what they need to ensure quality of life; in other
words, what options are available now and what policies should be put into ...
