I do think if one had stuck to the original wording
An apple (hour of debian maintenance) a day
keeps the doctor away.
(as opposed to "... keeps doctors away")
then there would have been no reason to suspect anything
other than the original meaning.
It is not just the context of debian-med. The tiny
difference between "keeps the doctor" and "keeps doctors"
makes all the difference in the world AFAICT.
However, it's understood that no ill meaning was intended !
In fact, there's another meaning to it:
An hour spent on maintaining Debian keeps doctors using
Debian from having to contact (pestering ;-) tech support.
Which is a good thing.
