Hi, Andreas.
I've just compiled a .deb for Adly under Ubuntu-MATE 18.04 LTS with one
minor change to debian/control:
Build Abyss package from source manually
# download from http://cdn-fastly.deb.debian.org/debian/pool/main/a/abyss/
ajt@beluga:~/src/Abyss$
ls
abyss_2.1.5-7~bpo9+1.debian.tar.xz abyss_2.1.5-7~bpo9+1.dsc
abyss_2.1.5.orig.tar.gz
# extract sources
dpkg-source -x abyss_2.1.5-7~bpo9+1.dsc
cd abyss-2.1.5
# change "debhelper" dependency from 12~ to 11~
vim debian/control
...
Build-Depends: debhelper (>= 11~),
...
# build binary package
debuild
ls ..
abyss-2.1.5 abyss_2.1.5-7~bpo9+1_amd64.changes
abyss_2.1.5-7~bpo9+1.dsc
abyss_2.1.5-7~bpo9+1_amd64.build abyss_2.1.5-7~bpo9+1_amd64.deb
abyss_2.1.5.orig.tar.gz
abyss_2.1.5-7~bpo9+1_amd64.buildinfo abyss_2.1.5-7~bpo9+1.debian.tar.xz
abyss-dbgsym_2.1.5-7~bpo9+1_amd64.ddeb
# install binary package
sudo gdebi ../abyss_2.1.5-7~bpo9+1_amd64.deb
apt policy abyss
abyss:
Installed: 2.1.5-7~bpo9+1
Candidate: 2.1.5-7~bpo9+1
Version table:

Thanks for your help,
Tony.
