Apart from what others have told you here: One thing you could do when starting exploring your way into contributing more to Debian and Free Sofware is creating an OpenPGP key. (I assume you don't have such a keypair yet?) You'd need such a key if you at one point would like to register at https://nm.debian.org/ .
