It's not package hijacking. I asked the current maintainer Hideki Yamane at Debconf26 yesterday in person if I could take over the maintenance of this package. He said yes (very fast). That's the story.

Thanks. In this case you should note in the changelog that the maintainer change was approved by the previous maintainer.
