The first one is the config.sub replacement. What about using something
like the following for your configure target:
set -e; if ! [ -f config/config.sub.backup ]; then \
mv config/config.sub config/config.sub.backup; \
ln -s /usr/share/misc/config.sub config/config.sub; \
fi
And kind of the reverse for the clean target.
