Looking your rules, you have: DEB_LDFLAGS_MAINT_APPEND = -Wl,--no-as-needed -Wl,-rpath=/usr/lib/fw4sp zathura, have this: export DEB_LDFLAGS_MAINT_APPEND=-Wl,--as-needed Could you test it?
