This is expected, as booting from CD is not supported. You have to do a network install. I have no idea if you can boot off the new debian installer CDs for 3.1 (Sarge), but I doubt it. BTW, as I did the install on my Indy, I ran into a puzzling problem: even after I tftp-booted my box, I was not able to access my CDROM, even though it was working perfectly OK under Irix. Turned out that I had to switch *off* parity checking, because the Linux driver had parity off as well. This was at least a year ago, so YMMV, but I thought I'll mention it.
