Debian Multimedia Maintainers: Hello. I was asking your team to update the LAME package so that the LAME on Debian could update to 3.100 Beta 3. The LAME maintainers have disappeared for the past few years and are unlikely to release an official 3.101.
The 3.101 Beta 3 has the new features and most importantly a fix for the CBR and ABR modes of encoding. The default quality level of 3 and the higher values of 0, 1, and 2, cause severe distortion on stereo files. These modes employ a buggy noise-shaping amplification filter that causes issues. Already, LAMEXP and dBPowerAmp have adopted LAME 3.101 Beta 3 for this reason.
