Well, well -- on further testing I find it's actually a very different problem. The files I am working with are on an AFS volume. Those toolbars are disappearing because OOo believes the files are read-only. If I copy them to a local filesystem, the problem disappears. The files, of course, are not read-only -- AFS tickets are in order and I have rlidwka access to their directory. So the problem is actually that OOo is preventing me from editing files on AFS because it incorrectly believes I do not have write access. Should you close this and I refile a new, corrected bug? -- Pax vobiscum; pax cum omnibus.
