Package: openoffice.org Version: 1.1.0-3 Severity: normal Tags: l10n In LANG=ko_KR.eucKR, (non-ASCII) characters in menus and dialogs of openoffice are shown as rectangles.
I have installed ttf-baekmuk (korean true type font), xfonts-baekmuk (75 dpi Korean font), msttcorefonts (which inclues Arial), xfonts-intl-japanese, xfonts-intl-japanese-big, xfonts-base(-transcodes), and so on. * Work-around: I solved this problem by setting the font replacement table from "Arial" to "Baekmuk Gulim". But it makes me not use Arial font in ooimpress, etc. *NOTE* that the replacement from "Andale Sans UI" to Korean font, which is mentions in README.Debian.gz, DOES NOT WORK. I guess there are something strange in building openoffice. Since I want to use Arial font in my presentation, I tried as follows. But both trials are failed. * First try: remove msttcorefonts. According to http://gsl.openoffice.org/files/documents/16/347/FontTroubleshooting.sxw , this problem originate from the Arial font. Therefore I removed msttcorefonts packages, which includes Arial font. But, this changes the rectangles (broken characters) to blanks. :-P * Second try: modify VCL.xcu I modified the font mapping file, /usr/lib/openoffice/share/registry/data/org/openoffice/VCL.xcu to designate Baekmuk Gulim as the font for UI_FIXED and UI_SANS in ko-kr locale. But, it does not work. Anyway, I want to use Arial font (or its alternative) and using it in Korean environment.
