oowriter now prints with CUPS. To make it work I emptied .padminrc in my home directory and also removed 'lpr' that followed 'Command=' in ~/.openoffice/1.1.2/user/psprint/psprint.conf.
The printing problem only occurred because I had set 'lpr' as the printing command in oopadmin. Apparently openoffice.org refuses to print with the 'lpr' command. When no printing command is set in oopadmin, oowriter prints just fine. Sorry for the false alarm. ..............................................................
