Hi,
I've also found that openoffice creates the file .sversionrc directly in
the home directory instead of creating it beneath .openoffice. This file
also clearly belongs to openoffice and should therefor reside in
.openoffice. Thanks for changing!

You did actually look what that file contains?
$ cat .sversionrc
[Versions]
OpenOffice.org 1.1.2=3Dfile:///home/rene/.openoffice/1.1.2
it specifies where a particular OOo/SO installation/user profile is.
So it cannot be in .openoffice...
