============================================================ # Debian Outreach BoF ## Agenda - Status of the current internship programs - Bootlenecks - We skipped an Outreachy round because of lack of mentors - Improvements - gsoc - process - 6 projects currently going on - outreachy - strungling to find projects. - we should look into why this is. talk to mentors - gsoc has as option to propose smaller/shorter projetcs which might be easier to mentors - outreachy itself scaling down due to lack of funding - TODO: invite potential mentors to subscribe to [email protected] - New internship programs - idea: spread this over a longer period with a smaller time commitment - Maybe this should be called a bootcamp, or mentoring program, if there is no stipend - Otto is already running a "Mentoring Mondays" thing that looks like an English-version of what's done in Brazil - we could define a curriculum and look for volunteers to provide content (videos, written tutorials etc). this could be based on https://debconf26.debconf.org/schedule/debian-debconf-for-newcomers/ - having a stipend of not is an issue. ON one hand, being paid makes it possible for some people to participate at all, OTOH they might (and usually do) just go away after payment ends. - Travel (bursary) to future DebConf could be used as a prize for interns to replace regular payments (if we don't have money for that). The money could come from Debian and not from DebConf. - we kind of already do this, but we might not want to commit to it - TODO: kick-off the discussion this idea internally in debian-outreach mailing list - TODO: start to define a curriculum for the mentorship program - TODO: grab historical data to get some statistics regarding the projects and if the interns are sticking around - New outreach ideas (TBD) - #debian-outreach on IRC (OFTC server) - [email protected] (subscribe please) ============================================================ Cheers!
