Actually, I find that the most productive distinction is in bit-depth
of the images.  Fer instance, I have only 8-bit color for X.  So I
don't want flashy, color-consuming icons.  I want simple, hopefully
shared colormap icons.  But some have 24-bit color and want their
desktop to look like a videogame, so they want tons of colors.  It
would be fabulous if windowmanagers had a little toggle for the
hi-color and low-color icon directories.
