Never got around to this one, sorry. It is important to use update-rc.d and not directly place a file in /etc/rcS.d, since a package like file-rc replaces update-rc.d with a different program and does not look in /etc/rcS.d (if I recall correctly). Placing a program there could hose someone's system. The correct way to do it is to place the program in /etc/init.d and use update-rc.d.
