Package: debian-policy Version: 3.5.3.0 Severity: normal According to /usr/share/doc/debian-policy/upgrading-checklist.txt.gz:
- Examples and templates should now live in /usr/share/<package> or /usr/lib/<package>, with symbolic links from /usr/share/doc//<package>/examples as needed. However, section 13.7 of policy states: Any examples (configurations, source files, whatever), should be installed in a directory /usr/share/doc/package/examples. These files should not be referenced by any program--they're there for the benefit of the system administrator and users, as documentation only. Architecture-specific example files should be installed in a directory /usr/lib/package/examples, and files in /usr/share/doc/package/examples symlink to files in it. Or the latter directory may be a symlink to the former. Since policy is deemed to be authoritative over the checklist, I'd propose changing the checklist text to the following: - Arch-dependent examples and templates should now live in /usr/lib/<package>, with symbolic links from /usr/share/doc/<package> as needed. - System Information Debian Release: testing/unstable Architecture: i386 Kernel: Linux extant-streetcar-line.sixtyone 2.2.19 #1 Thu Apr 19 20:39:14 EDT 2001 i686 Versions of packages debian-policy depends on: ii fileutils 4.0.43-1 GNU file management utilities.
