No objection, but it would best if it could be done in cooperation with upstream so that "git clone <URI>" does the expected thing. It could be for example: git://git.debian.org/git/dpkg/dpkg.git#stable I welcome anyone to take this up with git's upstream. Otherwise we have to structure the field to be more than a simple URI and tools like http://svnbuildstat.debian.net would be broken (or need to be adapted).
