The Lintian maintainers are happy to participate in a discussion, but they do not implement their personal policy stances in defiance of the project's authoritative documentation. As noted, the use of Standard-Version is, in my view, a packaging error everywhere—and not just in udebs. To that extent we are allies; otherwise Lintian is not the right place for you (or I) to address concerns about that pestering and unnecessary field. Thanks for copying -policy!
