Hmm, just to make sure: you do have your aliases in your
/etc/modules.conf set up correctly, yes?

What happens when you insert the dmasound module by hand, instead of
auto-loading it through a sound app accessing a device?

Why does your kernel try to load sound-slot-1? Wouldn't that be the
second sound device, i.e. /dev/{dsp1,mixer1}?
