Hi all I'm missing the bar sign, the @ sign (I had to paste this one from the address in the header), bracketleft, bracketright, EuroSign and I don't know what else on the keyboard on X.
For the console: no EuroSign, that I found, but the other important signs as @, bracketleft, bracketright, bar etc. are available. I.e. my main problem is the keyboard on X. So how do I install a working keyboard? Docs, good (!) docs, not just snippets of knowledge, somewhere? I know I could simply do something like: cd /usr/share/keymaps/i386/qwertz cp mac-usb-de-latin1-nodeadkeys.kmap.gz /etc/console/boottime.gz But I'm careful with this as I did not find a way to check a newly installed boottime.gz on the *running* system, i.e. before rebooting. After all with the wrong keymap I won't be able to even log in, if my guess is right. Here is what I have: If I do a xmodmap -pke I get this (excerpt): keycode 16 = 7 slash bar backslash keycode 46 = l L at keycode 14 = 5 percent bracketleft keycode 15 = 6 ampersand bracketright keycode 26 = e E EuroSign It seems I have a linux keycodes map: $ zgrep 'keycode *1 =' /etc/console/boottime.kmap.gz keycode 1 = Escape And it seems I have a linux-keycode kernel: $ grep MAC_ADB /boot/* /boot/config-2.4.20-powerpc:# CONFIG_MAC_ADBKEYCODES is not set /boot/config-2.4.21-ben2:# CONFIG_MAC_ADBKEYCODES is not set Really?: $ grep ADB /boot/* /boot/config-2.4.18-newpmac:CONFIG_ADB_CUDA=y /boot/config-2.4.18-newpmac:CONFIG_ADB_PMU=y /boot/config-2.4.18-newpmac:CONFIG_ADB=y /boot/config-2.4.18-newpmac:CONFIG_ADB_MACIO=y /boot/config-2.4.18-newpmac:CONFIG_INPUT_ADBHID=y /boot/config-2.4.20-powerpc:CONFIG_ADB_CUDA=y /boot/config-2.4.20-powerpc:CONFIG_ADB_PMU=y /boot/config-2.4.20-powerpc:CONFIG_ADB=y /boot/config-2.4.20-powerpc:CONFIG_ADB_MACIO=y /boot/config-2.4.20-powerpc:CONFIG_INPUT_ADBHID=y /boot/config-2.4.20-powerpc:# CONFIG_MAC_ADBKEYCODES is not set /boot/config-2.4.21-ben2:# CONFIG_ADB_CUDA is not set /boot/config-2.4.21-ben2:CONFIG_ADB_PMU=y /boot/config-2.4.21-ben2:CONFIG_ADB=y /boot/config-2.4.21-ben2:CONFIG_ADB_MACIO=y /boot/config-2.4.21-ben2:CONFIG_INPUT_ADBHID=y /boot/config-2.4.21-ben2:# CONFIG_MAC_ADBKEYCODES is not set ( ... snip ... ) Binary file /boot/vmlinux-2.4.21-ben2 matches Hardware: Powerbook G4 Machine Model: PowerBook3.5 (version = 3.2) German qwertz keyboard My /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file: http://www.geocities.com/wolfgangpfeiffer/XF86Config-4.txt My Kernel config (for the running 2.4.21-ben2): http://www.geocities.com/wolfgangpfeiffer/config-2.4.21-ben2.txt Last XFree86.0.log: http://www.geocities.com/wolfgangpfeiffer/XFree86.0.log My brain hurts :), after hours without good answers from WWW.
