Hi,

this problem also exists with 1.4.1. The problem is with following several 
symlinks.

Just do a ln -s /pathtojdk/bin/java /usr/bin/java and it will work.

But of course, you loose the 'alternative' facility for java... This bug has 
been reported on IBM's list in june for the previous version, but apparently 
not solved :-(
