Hmm, probably, if you attach to the running X server. Alternatively, you could try starting gdb like gdb /usr/X11R6/bin/XFree86 and then attaching to the running server, or starting the X server from within gdb. BTW, even if you manage to track down the problem, I won't have time to deal with it for another week at least, maybe even months.
