I have a 6,8 (12" 1.67 GHz), and afaik with nvidia cards the answer is no. However you can get suspend-to-disk working; I have it working with swsusp2. What happens when your lid closes is a function of the software you have installed. But AFAIK your machine is not capable of suspend-to-ram.
