MHmh, I use a powerbook g4, my network card is a sungem too and I can do: sudo ip l set eth0 address 00:11:24:xx:xx:xx and it works. I'm using a 2.6.20 kernel but I remember it working since a long time so I'm wondering what doesn't the driver implement.
