Brian, OdyY--

I should start with saying I'm a hardware guy working in the areas of
DSP and VLSI. Software higher than system calls and library functions
just confuses me, massively parallel hardware is fun. I miss the days
of `cat file > /dev/lp`.

It looks like bug https://www.cups.org/str.php?L4177 is awfully
similar to what I'm seeing.

I tried this again and the stupid printer showed up. How about that.
I have no idea what got poked but something changed.

The printer did show up as paused, and once I resumed it, I got a new
and interesting status:
"Waiting for printer to become available."

When I google that string, I'm finding lots of people with variations
of printers that seen by the kernel but not cups.

I'll keep poking around seeing what I can do here. It's still not
printing but progress is happening.
