Thank you for the offer. You mentioned that the 'bad' PDFs print on a Ubuntu system. If you still have the system it would be useful to know the Ubuntu version and the cups versions used on it. Also, I'm assuming your printers are accessed over the network; is that correct? The outputs of lpstat -t dpkg -l | grep avahi ps ax | grep avahi might be of use.
