Common denominator for what? I don't think Ghostscript has any "default page layout to use when fed weakly expressed input" nor just "default font size to use when lacking from input". Sounds like those are what you are seeking a common denominator for. If Iceweasel needs Ghostscript to compose its Postscript/PDF, then I guess it was supposed to at least suggest it.
