Trying some more, including restarting the printer/scanner/etc it did work :) However, hplip.state is not re-created if removed, and dpkg -S /var/lib/hp/hplip.state shows no packages owns it. Neither is it a conffile: dpkg -s libsane-hpaio: /etc/hp/hplip.conf, /etc/sane.d/dll.d/hplip hpmud0: no conffile. hplip: /etc/dbus-1/system.d/com.hp.hplip.conf dpkg -L hplip shows that /var/lib/hp is created. hplip-data: no conffile
