Short answer: Depends on the hardware that's in your box, but I would assume a P3 should have more than enough horsepower for a basic desktop install.

Long answer: the best way to check would be to try installing it, if that's not an option, consult somthing like: http://www.debian.org/releases/stable/i386/ch02.html.en
