To me, that indicates that the spec is bad, actually. Having to prefix paths with ./ is silly. It is also counter-intuitive, which implies that people are going to make a lot of mistakes. Also, a small tool to check that all files are covered by debian/copyright Files sections would seem to be a good idea.
