Hi, I would like to give some information about Mini DebConf in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam [1,2]. The reason why I'm writing here is that I had to cancel my participation but it would be a shame that we - Debian as a project - would be fail in supporting the offspring of a new community in Asia.
I planned to take part in this conference and our leader was positive to support my travel provided that I would propose a reasonable abstract for a talk and a plan how to cooperate with the Debian enthusiasts in Vietnam. So if you are interested to join the MiniDebconf chances are good that you get support if you follow this advise. My specific topic would have been "Debian Pure Blends" and I was explicitely asked by the organisers to talk about this - thus my abstract was accepted. However, I do not think that this is the only topic which is interesting. The agenda ideas[3] list other issues (like package building, how to join Debian etc.) where any interested Debian maintainer would probably be able to help out. To help you finding a reasonable decision I'm quoting two other participiants of the MiniDebconf. These mails let me think it is quite important to go there and I wish I could at least help with this mail to make the MiniDebConf a success. Kind regards and have fun in Vietnam Andreas. ----- Forwarded message from Paul Wise <p...@debian.org> ----- Subject: Re: MiniDebConf Vietnam From: Paul Wise <p...@debian.org> To: Andreas Tille <ti...@debian.org> Date: Wed, 13 Oct 2010 13:28:11 +0800 The Thai MiniDebConf I went to earlier this year had 4 DDs and at least 30 other participants, the talks were mostly last-minute preparations (especially my one about the DFSG). Despite that I think we did some good work towards promoting Debian in Thailand and cultivating conference organisation skills in the area. IIRC FOSSASIA gets a lot more participants than we had in Thailand so it is a good opportunity to promote Debian in Asia. There seem to be some derivative distro folks coming too (LUbuntu, Ubuntu) so it might be a good idea for you to talk about Debian Pure Blends if you were to come. It is a lot less expensive for me to attend but I still need to get some days off work, since we are using Debian at work I think that will be fine though. I think the event hasn't been promoted as well as it could but it will be well worth coming if you have the opportunity. ----- End forwarded message ----- ----- Forwarded message from Andrew Lee <ajq...@debian.org> ----- Date: Thu, 07 Oct 2010 03:55:17 +0800 From: Andrew Lee <ajq...@debian.org> To: Andreas Tille <ti...@debian.org> Subject: Re: MiniDebConf in Vietnam Hi Andreas, ... [personal content removed] I think to help Debian community growning there is the most important thing. I wish there are more suitable DDs from over the world may help on this. [Answer to my offer to prepare a presentation about Blends and EzGo together.] However, I am not sure how well I can give a Blends presentation but I hope I can do it well eventually. I'd like start to prepare the blends presentation together with you. And we decide later if I am ready to delivery the concept of blends or not for this event. In the meantime, you should prepare that you have to take the trip when I can not ready for this time.
