Important! For the DEBIAN team.
I salute you! I have been a user and fan of the Debian GNU/Linux
operating system for many years and have enjoyed using Debian over the
years. I have used other operating systems before and in the last I was
looking for something more special, stable and secure, and I came across
this operating system that I chose to use. Linux Debian is something
special and wonderful. I personally introduce it and recommend it to
everyone. There are many things I love and like about this system, but
there are also things I want to share with your team that I would love
to see in this operating system.
Simple, easy to use, customizable and configurable (with more options
than currently).
Simple is always best and beautiful. It's good to be conservative and
balanced in this regard. Please welcome my appreciations, advice,
suggestions and criticisms. Thank you!
Suggestions - To add!
"Restore default values"
Add this function to all settings configuration menus, as well as the
ability for users to bring the OS back to the original settings "Restore
defaults" to fix mistakes they made (on one occasion I change the
settings to get better results, but I find it was better before and I
want to restore the original settings but I forgot them, so I need this).
It would also be good to have a dedicated button with this function for
the whole system (not just for a menu or window) e.g. in a category like
"Administration" or "System Information" or in the "System Settings"
window there should be a button with this function within reach of the
users, and after pressing it the password should need to be entered,
then a notification and warning window should be displayed to inform him
before the changes that will take place and the loss of personal
settings and changes; and with a confirmation from the user before
performing this action.
Application manager and updates
Add a new category to change the look of the operating system and the
application and update manager to give it a nice, modern look. When you
open "Applications" be pleasantly impressed by its nice, clean and
neatly categorized look (there are old, many years out of date
applications that should no longer be displayed in the main categories,
but should be automatically sorted if not updated within 2-3 years) and
placed in a new category called "Old out of date applications") from
where those who want them can access them.
Programs and applications "Recommended" for users
Separate updated, new, developer-maintained applications from old,
out-of-date applications in the "Applications (Gnome)" applications and
updates manager. If the developers of an application do not provide an
update within 2-3 years, that application should be automatically
removed from the "Recommended" (Suggested) category and from the main
application categories (example category: Audio and Video).
Adding a system function to filter/sort applications (by date depending
on the update) from the "Recommended" category, and from the various
available categories "Audio and Video" "Graphics and Photography" etc,
to be automatically moved to the "Old non-updated applications" category
if they will not be updated.
To be added to the Debian repository: : FreeTube (private YouTube),
Normcap, Videomass, Tartube, CudaText, Botles to run windows apps and
games, i2pd - Invisible Internet, Video Trimmer (gnome), Signal, Crow
Translate, Flatseal.
To be kept up to date: VLC multimedia player, SMPlayer, MPV Media
Player, gImageReader (+Tesseract OCR), Kdenlive - video editor, Firefox,
Chromium, GIMP, Thunderbird, LibreOffice, Jami, Timeshift - System
restore utility for Linux, Back in Time, BleachBit, ClamAV, ClamTk,
CopyQ, KeePassXC, OBS Studio, Gnome Boxes (gnomeboxes.org), audacious
player, Handbrake, Wine HQ, Audacity. Apps are popular and among the
most used and important ones that users expect to receive updates.
The "Suggested" category can be renamed to "Recommended", where we can
find those essential and useful programs that the debian team should
keep up to date and promote to users in this category: VLC multimedia
player, SMPlayer, MPV Media Player, Videos (Totem), Audacious player,
CopyQ, KeePassXC, OBS Studio, LibreOffice, Gnome Boxes, GIMP, Kdenlive -
video editor, Handbrake, +Normcap, +Crow Translate, +Botles to run
windows apps and games, Timeshift - System restore utility for Linux,
Thunderbird, Redshift, +i2pd - Invisible Internet, Pluma - Text editor,
gedit, +CudaText, GtkHash, Wine HQ, gImageReader, +Flameshot, Avidemux,
+Tartube, +Videomass, Audacity, Jami, +Signal, +Flatseal (Flatpak),
Blender, Back in Time, ClamTk, Inkscape, Firefox, Chromium. This will
make the appearance of the manager much more polished, modern and
pleasant than it is today. Users will be happy with these things
(updating the most important and used applications). You need to promote
these great apps in this "Suggested / Recommended" category.
*It would be ideal to add those open source apps with +.
Debian menu proposal for change
Change the "Menu" icon in the system tray which displays a mountain and
is inappropriate, better to add just text, simple example: "Menu"; and
the icon only with the option for the user to choose and add one for the
menu themselves from the menu settings. Please add customization
possibility if I want to exclude/add icon, add my own custom icon
suitable for "Main menu" add option in icon choice window to add one at
user's choice, separate from existing ones, to be able to upload it
themselves and further customize their OS layout. And the possibility to
display only text by excluding the icon, example: "Menu" I tried and
failed to remove the displayed icon to see only text. It's good that the
menu has an icon, but it should be a suitable icon for this function,
representing this menu, a universal menu icon. Add more icons to support
this. I'm only interested in this because I'm not happy with the menu
icon, which I think is inappropriate. If I find one in the customization
window that correctly represents the menu function (universal) then I am
satisfied and only wish to remove it. I finally found one that I am
happy with and managed to change it, a 9-dot icon (next to which the
text Menu appears), which I find appropriate.
Change, update, add new, simple and beautiful themes and backgrounds
(dark theme support).
Beautiful color shades, e.g. Yaru style (Ubuntu).
Change the icons in the "Main Menu" that are outdated and out of place
(as icons) which gives it an unpleasant and outdated, boring look, I
think it is important that the look of the Debian GNU/Linux operating
system is changed by adding/updating Themes with "Pictograms" "Window
borders" "Controls" "Mouse indicators" "Desktop backgrounds" everything
related to menus and icons, the "System settings" window.
Change the main menu button icons of "Close computer" "Logout" and "Lock
screen". Tip: Buttons on a black background, buttons in black with the
function inscription in white, that universal symbol representing the
respective function of system shutdown, session exit, screen lock, can
also be colored on a black background with the respective button
inscription colored in red and other colors. The Gnome system tray's
close, logout buttons on a white background are very balanced and
beautiful. Please, change those old, unfitting and boring icons for the
look of the system to give it a professional look.
Add the possibility for users to activate / install flatpak in a simpler
way via the "Applications" manager by ticking a box.
Use Gnone Box virtual machines to download a few operating systems to
see their layout, menus, themes and icons to draw inspiration from.
By changing the look in a simple, modern, conservative, balanced and
professional way I think you will gain more users and developers who
will get involved in the Debian development project, as well as
companies who will sell computers with the Debian operating system
installed on them and also sponsors who will support the development of
this system.
Please make official videos of the Debian Project or team with the
operating system, videos of a few minutes, 5 minutes of presentation in
a summary, that users can watch with each release of a new version, and
release them via an official YouTube channel. Videos with pleasant,
balanced and conservative background music, for modest, normal and
balanced people, to be watched by users, fans, families, young people,
people of all ages, companies, programmers and IT developers, for whom
you need to be an example of seriousness and professionalism to win
everyone over, you will only be able to do this through simplicity,
seriousness and a conservative spirit that sticks to principles. If you
follow this advice seriously, thinking about those categories of people
you want to address through these videos, I think you will gain
enormously and the popularity and use of this system will increase
significantly. Videos just with a nice musical background for normal
people. And Debian team introduction videos where you invite willing
programmers, IT connoisseurs, to support and if they want to join the
project.
Dark theme support for "Synaptic manager" and some applications that do
not change their appearance even when a dark theme is selected.
Many times I've noticed unpleasant things in the display of some windows
I open, they don't keep their original size, or the one before changing,
the windows open at large sizes, the sizes always change and gives it an
unpleasant, unprofessional look, I think it would be good if there was a
customization option, keep, remember, lock the size of the window (of
the things we change, to keep it looking nice and professional) a window
you open, for example when you download something from the internet or
in an application, when you open a window to select a file, in the video
editor, audio/video player or folders. I think it would be nice to have
the option to customize/keep the size of the windows we open, the option
to lock window resizing to prevent windows we open from resizing, and
for the OS to remember both the window configuration and size, the
places we access, so that when we open a window again, for example to
access or download a file both from the computer and from the internet
via the browser, it remembers that place where we opened a window
before, even long before to access or save a file more easily. I've
noticed this behavior in various situations and applications over the
years, in video players and editors, etc, an unfortunate thing.
I used Gnome Box and downloaded a few operating systems to my computer
and was pleasantly impressed by the beautiful look of these systems,
their rich and beautiful themes and the customization options they
offered. I hope the debian team will also offer more options by adding
new themes and icons, giving the system a more modern, appealing and
beautiful look than it has been so far!
One of the systems I tried was Linux Mint 21.1 Cinnamon and I was
pleasantly impressed with a few things, but two things I really liked,
the update manager and apps that provide updates to the computer, that
shield in the system tray that with a simple click opens the update
manager and you can easily update apps, you can individually tick the
apps to update.
And the second one was Timeshift - System restore utility for Linux,
which offers the possibility to restore your Linux system in case
something breaks. Many times I've been in this situation, helpless and
not knowing what to do, and I believe many others have gone through
similar situations. Please add this application if you can to your
distribution and keep it up to date.
Essential applications that should be pre-installed in distributions
offered by the Debian project team:
Timeshift - System restore utility for Linux

Important!
Videomass, Tartube, CudaText, Botles to run windows apps and games, i2pd
- Invisible Internet, Video Trimmer (gnome), Signal, Crow Translate,
Flatseal.
Media Player, gImageReader (+Tesseract OCR), Kdenlive - video editor,
Firefox, Chromium, GIMP, Thunderbird, LibreOffice, Jami, Timeshift -
System restore utility for Linux, Back in Time, BleachBit, ClamAV,
ClamTk, CopyQ, KeePassXC, OBS Studio, Gnome Boxes (gnomeboxes.org),
audacious player, Handbrake, Wine HQ, Audacity.
categorie: VLC multimedia player, SMPlayer, MPV Media Player, Videos
(Totem), Audacious player, CopyQ, KeePassXC, OBS Studio, LibreOffice,
Gnome Boxes, GIMP, Kdenlive - video editor, Handbrake, +Normcap, +Crow
Translate, +Botles to run windows apps and games, Timeshift - System
restore utility for Linux, Thunderbird, Redshift, +i2pd - Invisible
Internet, Pluma - Text editor, gedit, +CudaText, GtkHash, Wine HQ,
gImageReader, +Flameshot, Avidemux, +Tartube, +Videomass, Audacity,
Jami, +Signal, +Flatseal (Flatpak), Blender, Back in Time, ClamTk,
Inkscape, Firefox, Chromium.
personalizare, păstrare, memorare, blocare a dimensiunii ferestrei (a
Timeshift - System restore utility for Linux
