Hello fellow developers and maintainers as well as the DPL,

Framework caught my attention recently as I discovered that they have a 12'' inch version of their laptop line up and I was curious about the Linux compatibility on their laptops and I came to know that they officially support Fedora, Ubuntu and Bazzite but they also listed Mint, Arch and NixOS as community supported ones [1].

They also announced Framework 13 Pro with Intel Panther Lake CPU lineup [2] and it's an official Ubuntu Certified laptop -- which means it comes with Ubuntu pre-installed and works well with the hardware out of the box based on your configuration [3].

I'm bringing this up right now as our new DPL, Sruthi Chandran has expressed her interest in having laptops come with Debian pre-installed on them on her 2026 DPL platform [4].

Framework seems to be interested in working with large distributions like Ubuntu and Fedora to collaborate with the distros [5] . I believe this could be the right opportunity for us to collaborate with a hardware company to provide a better out-of-the-box experience with Debian as Framework is very much interested in Linux.

We could work with Framework and help them certify some of their laptop line-ups with a Debian Certification to ensure that it works well with the OS and as well as offer Debian as a pre-installed OS for their customers who buy a pre-built Framework laptop.

I'm curious about what everyone thinks about this and if Framework would be a good place to start something like this. I'd like to hear what everyone including the DPL think about this.
