Using unstable with gnome 2.6 from experimental debian kernel package: 2.6.5-1-k7 Arch: x86 Athlon XP Im using Metacity Version: 1:2.8.1-1 and I have the gnome-icon-theme package from experimental I have the same behavior as Rob Speer reported, upon starting gnome I get a message about the gnome-settings-daemon being unable to start, my fonts are really small and not the ones I have set as default. Icons on the desktop are those curled sheets of paper. But what I discovered by accident, is that as soon as I go to Applications -> Desktop Preferences -> Font from the gnome menu is that the problems correct themselves, icons reappear, and font corrects itself. I don't actually have to change the font or do anything just opening the selector application, seems to jumpstart the settings daemon.
