Underscores and periods show up in the XLFD regardless. This is a Bad Thing because most apps would expect to be able to call an XLFD that has the space in it (*-andale mono-*) rather than one with a period (*-andale.mono-*) or underscore (*-andale_mono-*), and if the fonts are being made available only via defoma, this won't be possible. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable Architecture: i386 Kernel: Linux d-ni 2.4.17 #1 Fri Jun 28 18:18:24 EDT 2002 i686 Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C Versions of packages x-ttcidfont-conf depends on: ii debconf 1.1.17 Debian configuration management sy ii defoma 0.11.1 Debian Font Manager -- automatic f ii xutils 4.2.0-0pre1v1 X Window System utility programs -- debconf information: x-ttcidfont-conf/xtt_vl: * x-ttcidfont-conf/tt_backend: freetype * x-ttcidfont-conf/font_path_change2: x-ttcidfont-conf/fixed_spacing: m --------------------------------------- Received: (at 153793-done) by bugs.debian.org; 31 May 2004 11:39:15 +0000 >From [EMAIL PROTECTED] Mon May 31 04:39:15 2004 Return-path: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Received: from alc1-interjet256-159-105.medtelecom.net (chistera.yi.org) [62.117.159.105] by spohr.debian.org with esmtp (Exim 3.35 1 (Debian)) id 1BUl8M-00063u-00; Mon, 31 May 2004 04:39:15 -0700 Received: from userid 1000 by chistera.yi.org with local (Exim 4.34) id 1BUl8E-0004Jl-El; Mon, 31 May 2004 13:39:06 +0200 Date: Mon, 31 May 2004 13:39:06 +0200 From: Adeodato =?iso-8859-1?Q?Sim=F3?= <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Joanne Hunter <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Cc: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: x-ttcidfont-conf: no way to insert spaces into an XLFD Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED], Adeodato =?iso-8859-1?Q?Sim=F3?= <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> References: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 Content-Disposition: inline Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit In-Reply-To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> X-No-CC: Please respect my Mail-Followup-To header User-Agent: Mutt/1.5.6+20040523i Delivered-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 2.60-bugs.debian.org_2004_03_25 (1.212-2003-09-23-exp) on spohr.debian.org X-Spam-Status: No, hits=-0.8 required=4.0 tests=BAYES_01,FROM_ENDS_IN_NUMS autolearn=no version=2.60-bugs.debian.org_2004_03_25 X-Spam-Level: hi, this mail is regarding debian bug#153793 which you reported some time ago. * Joanne Hunter [Sun, 21 Jul 2002 18:15:29 -0400]: > Package: x-ttcidfont-conf > Version: 13 > Severity: important > Despite Defoma claiming that a period (".") and x-ttcidfont-conf > claiming that an underscore ("_") will suffice, there is apparently no > working way to have spaces in an XLFD generated via x-ttcidfont-conf. > Underscores and periods show up in the XLFD regardless. > This is a Bad Thing because most apps would expect to be able to call an > XLFD that has the space in it (*-andale mono-*) rather than one with a > period (*-andale.mono-*) or underscore (*-andale_mono-*), and if the > fonts are being made available only via defoma, this won't be possible. it seems that this bug no longer happens in modern x-ttcidfont-conf versions. see, for example, on my system: $ grep -c 'andale mono' /var/lib/defoma/x-ttcidfont-conf.d/dirs/TrueType/fonts.* /var/lib/defoma/x-ttcidfont-conf.d/dirs/TrueType/fonts.alias:0 /var/lib/defoma/x-ttcidfont-conf.d/dirs/TrueType/fonts.dir:30 /var/lib/defoma/x-ttcidfont-conf.d/dirs/TrueType/fonts.scale:30 all those lines in the form: fonts.scale:Andale_Mono.ttf -monotype-andale mono-medium-r-normal--0-0-0-0-m-0-iso8859-15 i've closed this bug. if you can reproduce it with latest x-ttcidfont-conf from unstable (version 17), please write back and i'll reopen the bug and take a closer look at it. cheers, -- Adeodato Simó EM: asp16 [ykwim] alu.ua.es | PK: DA6AE621 Listening to: Julieta Venegas - Luna de miel Create a system that is usable even by idiots, and only idiots will use it.
