mc refuse to execute any commands on the commandline.
Sometimes I need to bee root to edit quickly a file and I use
su root -- nano %s
which is not more working. (%s is the actual selected file)

but it also doesn't work in plain bash/zsh ..
so please use for this issue:
su root -c nano %s ... this should work.
