locale is de_AT.UTF-8, I can enter multibyte chars from the keyboard,
like äöüß on the prompt.
now, when I backspace over such a char, it is not displayed, but still
in the buffer, eg. sent as an argument to a utility.
eg: "ls köln.jpg" backspace till "k", then enter gives "ls: k�:
file not found", backspace till " " then enter gives "ls: k: file..."

for UTF-8 locales, this is fixed with the pdksh → mksh migration.
