The original subject was bad. I should have written: "KMail freezes very often" in stead of: "KMail freezes sometimes".
I thought, emptying my trash folder with over 15,000 mails might reduce the time such a KMail freezes takes but then I had the problem that emptying the folder took **very** long. 8.5 hours(!!!) after starting the emptying process there were still over 13,900(!!!) e-mails left. I should note that while emptying the trash folder, KMail consumed approximately 90% of CPU time. I killed KMail via xkill and deleted the e-mails by deleting the contents of trash/cur. Now KMail still seems to suffer from the freezes. This bug should get high priority since, as I've shown, it is very serious. Thanks.
