I have the same problem, but I don't have installed that you call fam, and I
don't have NFS.
In my computer:
1) When splash screen says "Initializating services..." it takes a lot
of time in that position and after that the splash screen dissapear and only
the mouse pointer is seen.
2) After a lot of time KDE starts and works well.PD: I'd tried running fc-cache (and forcing) yet. Bye.
