I think you have found a bug in KDM. :) It appears they have support for using the location but don't default to it. I will try to push the fix into the next release of KDE and at minimum will fix it for Debian's version. I am not sure why KDE didn't default to it to begin with since they did have documentation about it in the source. :( Thanks, Chris
