Package: kdm
Version: 4:3.5.5a.dfsg.1-1
Severity: important

Last night I dist-upgraded my unstable and this pulled Xorg 7.1.
Prior to that I was running Xorg 7.0. After the upgrade finished
I encountered a bizarre consequence. Upon starting the system
kdm runs fine and I login. However, after quitting, the kdm
login screen does not appear and I am dumped to a console. If I
stop kdm and start it again, the login screen appears and I
can login fine but after exiting again the same thing happens.
Every time I logout, kdm cannot restart.

Here is the tail of kdm.log that has relevant information

However, DRI is enabled even though kdm seems to claim it is not. I can tell
this both from glxinfo and looking at Xorg.0.log.

*********************************************************************************

I hope this is not too long and can be understood.

I can add that I have worked around it in the meantime by
changing to gdm. Both it and xdm start properly and restart when logging
out of my KDE session. It turns out only kdm (which is the desktop
manager I happen to have always used ) is the only one with the problem.

Any ideas that anyone has would be greatly appreciated.
