I've always used local (no NFS nor kio slaves) plain text files ( _~/.kde/share/apps/korganizer/std.ics_ ). When I used the backup file to restore data lost, it was also located on a local disk (again, no NFS nor kio slaves) - _/mnt/hdb1/stuff/backup.ics_ - and I added it as a resource using KOrganizer's lateral bar, so I could copy events to the default iCalendar file. I've never synced it, neither with other programs nor with external hardware. Hope this helps!
