You can, however, write into the system-wide Akonadi server configuration file at package installation time, in order to auto-configure the backend based on which backend package is installed.

For example, for the SQLite backend, you need a file named /etc/xdg/akonadi/akonadiserverrc containing:

    [%General]
    Driver=QSQLITE3

Is there some reason a package maintainer script cannot do that?
