After upgrading Debian testing to KDE Plasma 5, things which rely on /etc/profile being sourced became broken because sddm doesn't source it unlike kdm did (it also doesn't source $HOME/.profile unlike kdm, so if anything relied on that it would be broken too). For example, /etc/profile adds /usr/games to the PATH, and minetest and a number of other Debian games rely on this. With sddm + Plasma 5 their launchers became broken in Debian.
